We asked our Insights panel of parents to tell us which kinds of outdoor events they are looking to attend with their families this summer. Here’s how they answered:

We also asked “Any other thoughts on outdoor events for families this summer?” Comments from our panel members included:

“I’d love to see more outdoor family events that you pay a nominal fee at the gate and that’s it. Nowadays everything is pay at the door and pay for everything else. I don’t mind paying for food etc. or bringing a picnic but events seem to have extra and hidden charges and it’s getting ridiculously out of hand.”

“Any place offering kids themed events needs to have good, clean toilet facilities. Reasonably priced food with healthy options.”

“Festival activities would be high on our outdoor list. Also healthy activities like bike races, runs.”

“It would be great to get some events included in the price of entry rather than having to pay extra. And family tickets are a must.”

“They need to cater for older children too, aged 10+. They are often forgotten about.”

Actionable Insights for outdoor events venues

  • Quite  a few parents mentioned that they resent paying for entry tickets only to be hit with extra charges once inside a venue for food and drink and more. Offering bundle tickets could help to alleviate fears of hidden costs for parents.
  • Parents told us food and drink options are important to them when choosing outdoor activities. What can you offer in terms of take-away options and what facilities are in place for those who bring their own, i.e. picnic benches, covered eating areas outdoors etc.?
