We also asked Any other thoughts on buying seasonally and locally? Comments from our panel members included:

“Depending on what fruits and vegetables I need – but I do try to buy locally and in season where possible.”

“Buying things in season not only tastes better but gives the variety during the year so we never grow fed up of certain things and look forward to them coming back into season again. It also has to be more eco friendly and natural to only buy when things are in season.”

“It’s easier in summer time to find a wider range Irish produce of course but I always try to find Irish produce first.”

“We try, but seasonal doesn’t always apply to our family. There are certain fruits & veg that we tend to stick to all year but for strawberries we prefer a specific local farm store. So – a mix! Also…. price is definitely a factor.”

“I prefer to buy seasonal products as they are usually on offer when they are plentiful and they also taste better and have a better shelf life. I try to buy local products to support local suppliers and workers.”
