[INSIGHTS REPORT] Catering for Different Ages Huge Factor for Choosing Family Days Out

Family Days Out

We ran a two week insights project asking parents different questions about how they feel about family days out.

We were curious to hear their views on days out with the kids; what is important when choosing where to visit and what they are prepared to spend on a day out.

What We Asked Parents About Family Days Out

Here’s a peek at of some of the key questions we asked parents about key aspects of planning and going on days out with the kids:

  • What would you usually spend on a family day out, including entry tickets, food etc.?
  • How much would you consider paying for an annual family pass for e.g. 2 adults + up to 3 children?
  • How far would you be willing to travel for a day out with kids e.g. to visit a particular attraction or venue?
  • What refreshments are you most likely to have on your family day out?

A Selection of the Feedback from Parents on Days Out

“I don’t always agree with adult tickets being so expensive going into kids places like farms etc. If going in with children adults rates should be discounted as they are more than likely there for the children!”

“High costs and add on costs are a real turn off, lower costs means more frequent visits. Poor parking facilities also a turn off.”

“Charging a family of 5 more than a family of 3 or 4 can be very prohibitive. A family with more children has less disposable income and as a result may not be able to attend with additional ticket price. The extra child in many cases doesn’t impact greatly in terms of cost to the event or venue so it may he worth considering making it easier for larger families to afford to attend.”

A lot of the time family days out can be restrictive to families on a tight budget. I think it’s important to be upfront about the costs. Is there a fee to park the car if so how much? Is outside food allowed? etc.”

“As a family with children of different ages and interests it is important to try find a balance of fun activities that everyone will enjoy and just make special memories together and spending time with each other is the most important.”
