Insights into Parents and Christmas

We ran a two week insights project asking parents different questions about how they feel about Christmas shopping.

We were curious to hear their views on planning and buying for Christmas; where they buy, how they budget, which toy brands they like, and more.

What You’ll Find in Our Highlights Report on Parents and Christmas

To gather these insights we ran an online survey on Mykidstime.com in June 2022 with 331 responses from parents and an in-depth insights panel carried out on our ParentsandBrands private platform, also in June 2022 with 21 panel participants.

What We Asked Parents About Christmas

Here’s a peek at of some of the key questions we asked parents about key aspects of planning and buying for Christmas:

  • How much do you usually spend on Christmas?
  • When it comes to planning for Christmas, what could retailers do better? What would be useful to you?
  • Where do you mostly buy toys for your own child and as presents?
  • How do you typically pay for Christmas?

A Selection of the Feedback from Parents on Christmas Shopping

Back to School Shopping

A lot of food goes to waste so encourage smaller quantities, smaller turkeys, ham etc

More fun stuff on around shops eg: sleigh rides, fake snow (if there’s no real stuff) for snowball fights, snowman building competitions, ice skating rinks etc. So instead of having grumpy children who hate shopping you can make it into a nice day out.

Layby is a great option for parents and could be used by family to pay something off a big toy.
