Parents and Education

We ran a two week insights project asking parents different questions about how they feel about education for themselves and their children.

What You’ll Find in Our Highlights Report on Parents and Education

To gather these insights we ran an online survey on Mykidstime.com in April 2022 with 176 responses from parents and an in-depth insights panel carried out on our ParentsandBrands private platform, also in March 2022 with 32 panel participants.

What We Asked Parents About Education

Here’s a peek at of some of the key questions we asked parents about key aspects of education for themselves and their child:

  • Have you or your teen visited any college open days?
  • As a parent, what information would you like from an educational institution to help your child make a choice?
  • When it comes to choosing third level education for yourself or your teen, please rank these factors from most important to least important
  • Have/will any of these household finance/insurance things change(d) for your family in 2022?

A Selection of the Feedback from Parents on Education

“An adult version of a ‘guidance counsellor’ to help you pick a field of interest and how to apply would be helpful. The CAO has drastically changed and some websites aren’t clear on the entry requirements for older students.”

“The cost of third level is staggering. We are already having discussion on how to save/what to cut to be able to give our youngest children the chance to go.”

“I feel that children need more information when it comes to career guidance. Many of the schools only focus on the 3rd Level Institutions near them and don’t encourage them to look elsewhere and at alternative courses should things not work out.”

“Delighted to see so many new apps now esp once Covid and home schooling happened.”

“I think it needs to change not all kids are the same and the education system doesn’t allow for kids that aren’t as academic . They need to get rid of having one exam at the end of your school days decided whether you can have a place in college or not. Have continuous education exams and interviews for courses.”
