We wrote 99 Fantastic Places to Go in Ireland with Kids as a content article on our parent site Mykidstime.com website in order to give ideas to parents for the school summer holidays.

Our engaged community had articulated to us that they appreciated ideas and wanted to read articles that would help them plan days out during the holidays.

We had also seen strong views on our Google Analytics for this type of “things to do” content so it was a natural follow up to a regional content series that we had started back in 2011.

We were pleasantly surprised by the response the article has had. It continues to get page views every summer, and it’s lovely to see the uplift again this year as things reopen in Ireland.

Why This Content Works

1. It helps solve a problem

Thinking of places to go with your child during summer school holidays is something parents experience. Our list makes it easy for them to find new ideas.

2. Lists work

Not everyone is a fan of “listicles” but they do work. This is because people like to know that there’s an end to the content and a numbered list tells them there’s an end. They also like to keep reading to see if the last item is the “gem” they were looking for.

3. It has a mix of content to appeal to different segments of parents

We put in a mixture of paid for and free places to visit, indoors and outdoors venues, old historical places and fun modern attractions.

And how do parents feel about Days Out as things reopen?

In our recent Insights reports about women and their views on family days out and visiting attractions, it turns out

  • Outdoor Adventure Parks and Tourist Sites are top preferred activities for a family day out.
  • 69% of our trusted panel plan to take days out this summer with their kids while 48% plan to have a family day out together every week as Ireland opens up
  • They want reassurance from places about safety: “I will only be going to attractions/places where I feel I will be able to keep my family safe and have sufficient personal space.” and “It is important that up to date information is available on their website or Facebook page as opening times etc may have varied.”
